Peugeot is rumoured to be working on a new electric vehicle concept which known as the Fractal. Based on early renderings, the design will be a small 2-door coupe which the company is planning to make it weighs at only 1000 kg (2205 lbs) and it should be able to travel within 280 miles (450 km) on a planned battery pack capacity of 30 KWh.
As a comparison, 2016 Nissan LEAF is having a 30 KWh battery pack with its range expected to be about 110 miles. In order to achieve this, the company is planning to develop a dual motor all-wheel-drive technology which hopefully able to improve the overall efficiency.
Another car manufacturer, Tesla, is also using a dual motor all-wheel-drive technology for Model S and the upcoming Model X. The dual motor Model S is reported to achieve 5% better range than the rear wheel drive version. FRACTAL will be developed based on similar technology but it seems that the 280 miles goal still appears to be unrealistic.
As for the interior design, FRACTAL will be designed with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit concept which focuses more on acoustic performance. Currently Peugeot is only selling Peugeot iOn which is rebranded Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
