Land Rover revealed that the company is working on a technology which is able to make the trailer or caravan or whatever vehicle which is being towed behind the car to look like it is “invisible”. This technology is known as transparent trailer technology. This technology is aimed to eliminate the blind spots caused by the vehicle which is towed behind the car, so that the driver is able to see other vehicles which are coming up from behind which in the end makes manoeuvrability easier and improve safety while overtaking.
The technology is made possible by combining video feeds from the existing reversing camera on the vehicle, the cameras on the wing mirrors as well as additional wireless digital camera on the rear of the trailer. The video feeds will eventually sent to the rear view mirror in the vehicle and therefore the trailer seems to be see-through.
According to Dr Wolfgang, Director of Research and Technology at Jaguar Land Rover, the prototype system offers a very high quality video image with no distortion of other cars or obstructions, which means, the driver would have exactly the right information to make safe and effective decisions when driving or manoeuvring, making towing safer and less stressful.
The company is also coming up with another technology, Cargo Sense, which will alert the drivers while on the move or remotely through smartphone app on the status of their cargo. This technology is made possible by combining in-trailer video feed and pressure sensors on the floor of the vehicle. Therefore, if there are changes to it, then the driver will be alerted so that he can take action.
All these technology is invented to provide a safer driving experience for the driver and its passengers.
