The latest trend of teardrop camper is moving towards a compact and efficient use. Gidget’s latest model, Gidget Retro Teardrop is designed to combine the iconic look as well as the advantages of a larger and more versatile living space. Eventhough it is weighted at 1213 lb (550kg) dry, it is still able to be towed with a smaller vehicles.
The interior of Gidget’s teardrop camper is consists of a cabin-filling bed which can be turned into an indoor lounge area with some cabinet space. On top of that there is a TV entertainment system which can be rotated to be viewed inside the cabin or outside the cabin. One side of the rotating cabinet is a 24-in HD television/DVD player while the other is a radio.
The kitchen is placed at the back of the camper which when you open it, you will only see the glass-top sink, however, frets not, as the two-burner gas cooktop and the cooler will slide out from underneath the counter behind the curved timber drawer. The camper offers a pressurized cold water system which connected to a 80-liter/110-liter (21/29-gal) water tank as well as a 40-liter (10.6 gal) waste water tank.
Gidget offers two 2015 camper models: Bondi, which is a compact camper measured at 8 x 5.3 x 5.4 feet (2.45 x 1.63 x 1.65 m) or Noosa, which is a larger camper compared to Bondi which measured at 9.8 x 5.3 x 5.5 feet (3 x 1.63 x 1.68 m). Both campers will have a fibreglass body planted on a steel frame, torsion axle and electric brakes.
Both of Gidget new trailers will have all the good things mentioned above with additional 110-watt solar panels, an inverter and deep cycle battery, a central electronic monitor and control panel, a security alarm as well as inside and outside LED lightning. The interior wood is made of Australian mainland and Tasmanian timbers. The difference is that the larger model will have a portable toilet, gas-heated shower, larger fresh water tank at 29 gal and larger cooler.
Gidget Bondi will be priced at AUD$17,682 (US$13,125) while Noosa will be priced at AUD$22,045 (US$16,365). The company offers domestic and international shipping and all the manufacturing is done in Australia.
Apart from Bondi and Noosa, Gidget is also developing Bells Compact trailer which is designed for small cars and motorcycles. This trailer will have the same features as above but the size will be smaller and lighter as well as narrower. It is planned for 2016/2017 launch.
Gidget has patented its slide-out system worldwide and currently it is the only brand which is using it eventhough in the past, there is another model, Safari Condo Alta trailer, which the roof able to be opened to get an extra space.
