A number of road accidents are reported happened because the driver is distracted on doing something like texting with their mobile phone and not paying too much attention on the road. Toyota has come up with a radio ad which is running in Sweden to turn off iPhone and Android phone when it is plugged into the car’s system. It is done to maintain Sweden roads to still be the world’s safest roads and to achieve the ‘Mission Zero’ concept.
How does the Toyota ad do it? The ad starts by saying “Hey, Siri” or “OK, Google” which definitely will wake up the iPhone and Android phone respectively and then ask the phone to switch on Airplane mode which means drivers then cannot make or receive a call as well as texting while driving. On top of that it also will deactivate Siri so that drivers cannot override the lockout with your voice.
However, not everyone is happy with the ad as the reality is that there are some driver who will just pick up the mobile phone and return them to the original setting manually which is what the ad is trying to prevent in the first place.
