Volvo On Call system was launched in 2001. It is basically a system which is installed in Volvo cars to provide safety, security and tracking services on the car in case if there is an accident, breakdown or theft by using the cars installed SIM card. On top of that the system also provides basic safety functions which will be activated when the airbags are deployed or when the driver need assistance by connecting them to the Volvo on Call operator and thus the operator will direct the emergency services to your current location by using GPS technology.
Recently Volvo announced that the company is going to release an update to the system as such it will be available on wearable such as Apple Watch and Android Wear or even Windows Phone app. Therefore, it allows Volvo drivers to use the system to control settings, lock/unlock, locate and utilize many of Volvo services from their wrist. On top of that, Volvo drivers also will be able to set heater timings, check the fuel level or mileage, time to the next service as well as locating your car in the huge parking lot. Another update which improves the ‘send-to-car’ capabilities for navigation purposes was released in end of June.
Sofia Wessman, Manager Volvo On Call at Volvo cars said that in only a few years the company have moved from a safety and security related in-car feature to a solution that allows the driver to stay connected with their car and provides many benefits to support their everyday requirements.
