Tesla recently announced that the second generation of Roadster model will be showcased in 2019. The auto maker hinted that it will be faster than the Model S which was announced a few days ago. However, there is no further information whether Roadster will be powered by gasoline or electric.
The Ludicrous Mode of Model S can reach from 0 to 60mph in just 2.8 seconds which makes it the fastest consumer car. The next generation of Roadster is believed to be designed to be able to reach 60mph from 0mph in less than 2.7 seconds. This figure is even faster than McLaren P1. In the testing stage, McLaren P1 was confirmed to be able to reach 60mph in just 2.7 seconds.
Apart from the speed, it is expected that the driving range of the new Roadster will be improved. From the latest update, version 3.0, which was introduced last December, the driving range was increased to 400 miles from the original value under the right conditions. The new Roadster is expected to beat the figure.
Although the original model was built on a platform borrowed from Lotus, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the upcoming model will be designed and built entirely in-house. We can expect more updates on the next Roadster in the next few months as the company is currently been busy with the final touches on Model X and 3 Series-sized Model 3 before the two models are released to the market.
